Orange Salad Dressing
With every day of summer feeling hotter than the last, there is nothing I've felt more like eating than refreshing summer salads. With a little tangy dressing and fruit, they're the perfect way to beat the heat!
You can easily add a zing to any average salad using my homemade orange dressing. Combining freshly squeezed orange juice with olive oil, sugar, and dijon mustard, it's the perfect balance of tangy and sweet.
Pour it over fresh, crisp salads, like my favorite grilled peach salad. It even makes a great marinade for meats like steak and pork chops! The possibilities are endless.
Orange Juice Salad Dressing Ingredients
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Orange juice
- Dijon mustard
- Sugar
Other vinaigrette recipes use different vinegars, such as apple cider vinegar, white wine vinegar, or rice vinegar, for flavor. My orange vinaigrette salad dressing relies on fresh orange juice and Dijon mustard instead, to balance out the tang you would normally get from a vinaigrette dressing. It's important to use fresh orange juice rather than bottled.
How to Make Orange Vinaigrette
- Mix olive oil, orange juice, dijon mustard, and sugar in a bowl. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
- Use immediately, or store the vinaigrette in the refrigerator until ready to serve!
Orange Dressing Tips
- Opt for freshly squeezed orange juice for the best vinaigrette flavor! Avoid using any bottled orange juice from the grocery store.
- Adjust the amount of sugar to your preferred liking - it's the best sweetener for this dressing. Balancing the sweetness with the tangy orange makes a well-rounded vinaigrette.
- For extra orange flavor, you can add a little orange zest to the mix.
- Since we're using simple ingredients, make sure to use a high-quality olive oil and fresh oranges.
- My orange vinaigrette is not only perfect for salads, especially ones with a tangy cheese like feta or goat cheese, but also makes a great marinade for beef, chicken, fish, or vegetables.
- To use it as a marinade, you can even add a little bit of garlic and pepper for flavor.
- For the best results and flavor, chill the vinaigrette in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before drizzling over salads.
Orange Vinaigrette Recipe FAQ
Homemade vinaigrettes go bad over time, but if stored properly in an airtight container, you will be able to enjoy fresh vinaigrette dressing for up to 1-2 weeks.
Store leftover vinaigrette in an airtight container with a tight fitting lid, such as a jar. When you're ready to use it again, give it a good shake or mix it back together with a whisk.
