Honey Garlic Sauce Ingredients
- Apple cider vinegar - if you have rice vinegar on hand, this will work too!
- Soy sauce
- Honey
- Garlic
How to Make Honey Garlic Sauce
- In a small bowl, add the apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and honey.
- Mix well- it won't completely come together yet, so don't worry if the honey is too thick.
- Add the sauce to a pan and add in the minced garlic. Heat over medium heat until bubbling and cook for 3-5 minutes.
- Remove from heat, and serve! This sauce is perfect as a glaze or dipping sauce!
Tips for Honey Garlic Soy Sauce
- To use this honey garlic sauce as a glaze, add the protein while the sauce is thickening. This will let the sauce thicken into a delicious, sticky glaze!
- Apple cider vinegar is the perfect choice for this sauce, but you can also use rice vinegar or white vinegar. If you use white vinegar, you might want to add a little extra honey or a pinch of sugar to balance out the acidity.
- If you're sensitive to raw garlic, add it to the pan with a little butter early, and saute it for a few minutes before adding in the rest of the sauce ingredients.
- This simple base is begging to be customized! Add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick, or a splash of chili oil for a bit of fire!
- For a bit of extra freshness, you can add sliced green onions.
- You can serve this sauce over almost anything. Use it as a glaze for honey garlic chicken wings, or drizzle it over a dish of pork tenderloin and green beans. It is so versatile!
Honey Garlic Sauce FAQ
Honey garlic sauce is a simple, easy sauce made from honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Mixed together and cooked briefly in a pan, this sweet and savory sauce is perfect as a glaze or used for dipping!
While the soy sauce, vinegar and honey all last months in the fridge, fresh garlic will spoil, so it's best to use this sauce within 5 days of making it. Reheat over low to medium heat on the stove or gently in the microwave, and stir to bring back to its original consistency!
Garlic Honey Sauce Variations
- Gluten Free: Easily make this recipe gluten free by swapping out the soy sauce, which is a hidden carrier of wheat gluten, for Tamari!
- Soy Free: Coconut aminos or a soy-free soy sauce blend works as a replacement for soy sauce, but be careful with the sweetness as aminos are naturally quite sweet. You may need to lower the amount of honey.
- Keto: Use your favorite honey replacement such as monkfruit syrup! Just keep an eye on the thickening of the sauce- if it's not thickening up like honey does, try adding a teaspoon of cornstarch mixed with a teaspoon of water.
How to Use Honey Garlic Sauce
- Make honey garlic sauce for chicken wings: Cook crock pot wings or baked chicken wings and use a large bowl or baking sheet to toss them in the sauce.
- Use them as a glaze for smoked chicken thighs.
- Try brushing the sauce over pork chops or pork tenderloin.
- Serve it as a dipping sauce for steak bites, or...
- Use it as a glaze for honey garlic meatballs!
