    Ham Broth

If you're like me, you've probably made this same mistake: you've thrown away the bone after cooking a ham dinner. I'm here to tell you to stop throwing that bone away, you'll thank me later!

There is no better use for that ham bone than to learn how to make ham bone broth. It's so easy and tastes incredible compared to store-bought stock. Having it on hand is such a treat, from using it as a base for soups to mixing it in to everyday recipes you'd make with other stocks or broths.

Just like chicken, turkey, or beef bones, your ham bone is loaded with flavor that can easily be simmered down to create the best bone broth ever! What I love most is that it eliminates food waste, as it makes use of every part of the ham.

Try out my ham broth recipe for your next soup and let me know what you think about the flavor. I bet you'll be amazed!

    Ham Broth FAQs

What seasonings are best for broth?

When making homemade bone broth such as ham stock from a bone, you can use fresh vegetables and herbs to add flavor to the stock, such as the classic mix of onions, celery, garlic, and carrots, as well as bay leaves. Other herbs to consider are rosemary, thyme, and lemongrass.

Can you buy ham bones to use for broth?

If you haven't cooked a full ham and want to make homemade stock, you may find ham bones in the meat section at your local grocery store for sale.

What to Make with Ham Bone Broth

Homemade ham bone broth is perfect used as a base for soups or stews, like split pea soup or ham bone soup. I love using ham broth in placement of vegetable broth, or water for pasta or rice when cooking most recipes!

    Storing Ham Bone Broth

    • Refrigerator: Store ham broth in an airtight container placed in the fridge for up to one week.
    • Freezing: Freezer ham broth for up to 3 months. I recommend storing it in smaller portions such as freezing it in an ice cube tray first, so you can thaw accordingly!

    Sauces for Meat

    • Buttermilk Chicken Marinade
    • Brown Gravy
    • Bulgogi Marinade
    • Turkey Gravy
