    What is brown gravy?

Brown gravy is a thick sauce typically made using meat drippings from roasted pork, chicken, beef, or turkey, along with a thickener such as flour or cornstarch, and other add-ins for flavor, like Worcestershire sauce.

The difference between white gravy and brown gravy is that white gravy is typically made with milk, while brown gravy uses meat drippings.

It's way easier than you think to make brown gravy from scratch! You won't ever need to buy one of those packaged gravy packets again once you learn how to make homemade brown gravy, and trust me, you won't want to. How to Make Brown Gravy with Drippings

Making brown gravy with dippings is just as simple as making gravy without drippings! Follow all the same steps, except add in drippings from meat during step 2 along with chicken broth.

You can use drippings from pork, beef, or chicken. Be sure to save them and enjoy a delicious tasty brown gravy!

    Homemade Brown Gravy Recipe Tips

    • Beef broth or beef stock may be used in place of chicken broth if preferred.
    • You can use flour instead of cornstarch if needed.
    • Using a whisk instead of a wooden spoon helps reduce any clumps that could happen, and will help make the gravy creamy.
    • Try adding minced garlic or onion and fresh herbs to your brown gravy for extra flavor.

    Easy Gravy Recipe FAQs

    What's brown gravy made of?

Brown gravy is made of a mixture of meat drippings or broth, and a thickener such as flour or cornstarch.

What can I add to my gravy to make it taste better?

Meat drippings will add more flavor to any brown gravy recipe, but if you're using stock or broth in place of drippings, you can add in extra ingredients such as minced onions, garlic, and fresh herbs. For my brown gravy recipe, I use Worcestershire sauce to make it even more flavorful.

    Storing Homemade Brown Gravy

Brown gravy is so easy to make, and even easier to make ahead of time and reheat before serving!

    • Refrigerator: Let brown gravy cool off completely before placing it inside an airtight container or jar. Place in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
    • Freezer: Once the brown gravy has completely cooled off, place it inside a freezer-safe bag or container and freeze for up to 3 months. Don't forget to write down your freezing date!
    • Reheating: Brown gravy can be reheated in a saucepan over medium heat for 10 minutes, or until warmed through.
