    Pea Pasta Sauce

I've been kind of obsessed with peas recently, and one of my favorite things to do is to create pasta sauces featuring pureed vegetables - so of course I had to make this creamy pea sauce!

Veggie sauces always turn out silky, creamy, and so deeply flavorful. The ideas are endless when it comes to what sauces you can make using vegetables, and this one combines two that pair together so well: peas and asparagus.

My green pea sauce is so easy to make, and is full of fresh and vibrant flavors everyone at the table will love. It's one tasty and easy way to eat your greens, or even to hide them from your kids! You won’t believe how flavorful this pea pasta sauce is with just a few simple, inexpensive ingredients.

    Pea Puree FAQs

What is pea sauce made of?

Pea sauce is made with simple ingredients you probably already have most of in your kitchen: pureed peas, asparagus, parmesan, salt, pepper, lemon zest, and butter!

Do you have to cook frozen peas to make pea sauce?

If using frozen peas for this pea sauce, I recommend thawing your peas ahead of time - no need to cook them.

    Green Pea Sauce Ingredients

    • Asparagus
    • Green peas
    • Parmesan
    • Salt
    • Black pepper
    • Lemon zest
    • Butter

    How to Make Pea Sauce

    1. Cut and discard the woody ends from the asparagus. Cleanly cut the tips away from the stalks, and set them aside to use later. Bring a pot of water to boil and add the asparagus stalks and green peas. Cook for 10 minutes, or until the asparagus softens to the point of mashing easily without effort.

    2. Strain peas and asparagus and add to a food processor. Blend until they are smooth and creamy, then remove the mixture and run it through a sieve to pick out any fibrous parts. This is optional, but will give you a creamier sauce.pea sauce in a clear container
    3. Heat a pan on the stove over medium-high and add butter. Melt, then add asparagus tips and cook until they are golden and soft. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then set aside.

    4. Pour pea cream and asparagus tips over prepared pasta or meal of choice, and mix together. Top with parmesan and lemon zest. Enjoy!pea sauce tossed with noddles in a white bowl.

What Pasta to Use for Pasta with Pea Sauce

You can use any pasta shape that is your favorite! I love using penne noodles because all the sauce gathers in all the nooks and crannies of the shell.

Shell-like pasta is best for sauces like this pea sauce, but pea pasta sauce is great mixed with fettuccine noodles, rigatoni, rotini, and any other small pastas, too!

    Pea Sauce Tips

    • Thaw peas before using them: If you use frozen peas, let them thaw before or the sauce will become too watery.
    • Use a mesh sieve to create an extremely smooth sauce: Once blended, pass the pea sauce through the sieve for a creamier texture.
