    Best Vanilla Whipped Cream

Vanilla whipped cream is so easy to make and well worth the 3 ingredients and 5 minutes it takes to whip up! The flavor in my easy vanilla whipped cream recipe is totally beyond compare. Try it just once and you will want to make it this way every time, hands down.

It's so easy to mix perfect whipped cream for use with your favorite pancakes, waffles, fresh fruits, and desserts. This smooth whipped topping would even make a delicious icing for light and airy cakes.

My absolute favorite recipe using fresh whipped cream is a strawberry shortcake. You haven't lived until you try whipped cream and strawberries.

    Homemade Whipped Cream

What is whipped cream made of?

My recipe for homemade whipped cream uses heavy whipping cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. It is light, fluffy, and so easy to mix.Ingredients for whipped cream in metal mixer bowl

What is the difference between heavy cream and whipping cream?

The difference is how much milk fat both contain. Heavy cream contains 36% milk fat while regular whipping cream is lighter, with only 30%. The best choice for homemade whipped cream is to use heavy cream.

How long does whipped cream last in the fridge?

Homemade whipped cream will last about a day in the refrigerator unless you stabilize it, which is easy to do using one simple additional ingredient. After stabilizing whipped cream, it will keep for about 3 to 4 days stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. I'll show you how.

    Can you freeze whipped cream?

Yes! Spoon whipped cream onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and place in the freezer. Once frozen, you can add to freezer-safe containers labeled with the freezing date. Thaw for about 20 minutes when ready to use.

    Granulated sugar or powdered sugar?

I use granulated sugar in my whipped cream recipe, but you can use either granulated or powdered sugar. The taste will be the same.

    Vanilla Whipped Cream Ingredients

    • heavy whipping cream
    •  granulated sugar or powdered sugar
    • vanilla extract

    How to Make Whipped Cream

    1. Chill mixing bowl and whisk attachment of mixer in refrigerator for 15-30 minutes. You may also use an electric hand mixer.
    2. Add whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla extract to the chilled bowl, then mix on medium-high speed until it forms stiff peaks.
    3. It's that easy!

    Whipped Cream Recipe Tips

    • Your mixing bowl, whisk attachment, and heavy whipping cream should all be as cold as possible before whipping cream. Place your mixing bowl and whisk attachment in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes until cold.
    • Mix on medium-high speed after adding all your ingredients to your chilled bowl until stiff peaks are formed. High speed can over-whip the cream, and low speed will under-whip it.
    • If you're using a stand mixer and not an electric hand mixer, make sure not to walk away from your whipped cream. It can easily over mix if you aren't paying attention.
    • Stiff peaks form when you lift the whisk from the bowl and the raised peaks keep their shape and only droop slightly.

    How to Stabilize Whipped Cream

To stabilize whipped cream, add an ingredient such as cornstarch, cream of tartar, or powdered milk.

    • Cornstarch: Use 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed in with your other ingredients.
    • Cream of tartar: Use ¼ teaspoon of cream of tartar.
    • Powdered milk: Use 2 teaspoons of powdered milk.

Stabilized whipped cream holds its shape better than regular whipped cream, making it a great choice for icing cakes or keeping longer in the refrigerator.

    Flavored Whipped Cream

You can make flavored whipped cream by either swapping out the sugar or the extract for different flavors. You can also add flavorings on top of the other ingredients.

Try adding a pinch of cinnamon or cocoa, or using coconut rum or almond extract in place of vanilla extract. Instead of sugar, you can use maple syrup or honey for flavored whipped cream.
