Using just 6 simple ingredients including salt and pepper, my Worcestershire Mushrooms and Onions Sauce is perfect for serving with everything from chicken, to steak, pork, burgers, and more!
In a skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Then, add mushrooms and cook 5 minutes.
3 Tablespoons unsalted butter, 1 pound white mushrooms
Reduce heat to medium and add sliced onion, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook another 5-7 minutes, until the mushrooms and onions are browned and soft.
1 sweet yellow onion, ½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon pepper, 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Notes
If the mushrooms and onions soak up too much of the moisture in the pan, add additional Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon at a time to avoid them drying out.
Do not replace the sweet yellow onion with white or red. A sweet yellow onion is the perfect onion for this dish - white or red onion will change the flavor completely.
I use white mushrooms in this recipe, but I also enjoy using shiitake mushrooms or baby Portobello mushrooms. Use whichever you prefer, just make sure they're sliced to relatively the same size!
